Day 20 – September 20, 2019
To be honest, it has been a while since I stuck with something for this long. At least, when it comes to a career or work. I usually get bored, see something shiny that I like, and move to the next big thing.
I’m kind of like a squirrel trying to cross the road. Do I go back? Should I keep moving forward? Oh, look a nut!!
This past week I wrote an 1800 word list article that I submitted to Listverse.com. I thought it was pretty good. I spent way, way, way too much time on it. 9 hours to be exact. (I’ve started tracking my time). I thought I had done enough research that it was not a list that had been published before on their site.
Alas, I was wrong.
An email popped up from them, the very next day, and told me that it was indeed too similar to lists already on their site.
Bummed? Yes! Giving up? Nope!
I am going to find another site to submit it to. Worst case, I will put it on Medium.com and use it for my portfolio.
Not a single second of online courses was completed this week. I need to do a better job of blocking my work time and not allowing other things to get in the way of it. I have a tendency to do that as I am still getting used to this being my full-time gig now.
After getting rejected, the doubt monsters came rushing in to console me. Those sneaky, little guys. They know just when to show up. With the insecurity flooding in, I forced myself to take some sort of action. Immediately. Google search began to show me article about what a freelance writer needs. I found a list of maybe 3 here or 5 there. One article led me to a job posting for a freelance writer and the search began.
100’s of job postings for freelance writers later, a pattern started to form. The same qualities and needs were coming up over and over again. This information brought to life my other 1800 word article of the week: Freelance Writing Requirements You Need For Success. Read it here.
Next week has a lot on the calendar that I want to accomplish.
Wish me luck!
Please comment with any tips and tricks you have for keeping my work time my work time. Not my do laundry and clean the house time.
