Day 1 – September 1, 2019
I’m taking a cue from best-selling author, Mark Manson, and I’m ready to eat my shit sandwich.
Today is truly what you would consider the first day of the rest of my life. Today is Day 1 of my journey to make money writing.
Not going to lie, I’m pretty nervous.
For the first time in my life I’m only focused on writing. No fall back, no other career to distract me (I parked my real estate license). Nothing. Just me, my writing, and figuring this all out.
Whew, I’m starting to sweat a little.
Two weeks ago I got so fed up with myself that I finally said, “Forget it! Stop talking about it and write!”
I told my husband I was going “all in” on this writing thing for 6 months.
If, in that time, I do not figure out how to make money writing then I will give up this dream and get a job! (This is my worst nightmare, by the way.)
The whole concept of going “all in” on something is not new to me, but it is one I haven’t done in a long time or maybe ever. I’m more of a start and stop kind of person then an all in type. Since I left my banking job in 2013, I’ve pretty much been half-assing my way through.
Depending on what standard you use, some may say that I was doing pretty good. Heck, I even got on T.V. once.
I was not one of those people.
I wasn’t writing, at least not how I want to be. Not in a way that I feel comfortable telling people I’m a writer. Not in a way that they don’t look at me like my head grew a third eye.
This is not a get rich in 6-months plan. This is a discover how to do it plan.
How to start, what to do, and how to keep doing it.
I read about all these people making money writing content, copywriting, writing novels, writing for magazines, and with blogs. It all sounds amazing and I ask, “But, how?”
Every week I will be researching, writing, pitching (yikes, that thought makes my heart pound), and trying out different ways to build an actual career.
A writing career.
That pays in real money.
If the idea of admitting that you want to make money writing makes you squirm, this isn’t the right place for you. I won’t be offended if you don’t come back. I understand.
Money can be uncomfortable for people.
I, however, like to travel and I like nice stuff so……..
What To Expect
Every Friday you will find a short video and a post, like this one. I will update my progress, and what I learned during the week. I will also talk about what I am working on, what books I’ve read, what courses I’ve done, and all my fails.
I will post articles about things I find helpful or not helpful, at all. I hope they will be engaging, insightful, and worth your time to read.
It’s been an interesting two weeks for me as I have been working on getting this website going. I’ve learned some things already.
Head on over to the Just Learned tab and find out what one thing I fought against, ignored, dismissed, and finally embraced, making all the difference for this journey.
Wish me luck!
See you Friday!
